We have CLARiiON CX3 series SANs and all are comboi (i.e. include both iSCSI and fibre). Windows to iSCSI works fine but for labs and small scale tests we want to attach ESX hosts to the SAN as well. EMC's documentation is poor and PowerLink is not the world's easiest to navigate support site. There appears to be a missing step, the one which registers the ESX host with the storage processor. If anyone has a known working step by step to achieve this, I'd be grateful if they could share it.
I've posted an internal email to VMware.
Cormac Hogan, one our our top support engineers in Cork, Ireland, quickly came back to me with a fantastic document on this (and other things...) that the PSE (Production Suppot Engineers) use for training.
I extracted the requisite sections and created Integrating CLARiiON iSCSI with ESX
It would be great to get feedback on this, but even better would be other practices for integrating other arrays with ESX using different protocals - ESX -> (FC) -> DMX for example, or ESX -> (FC) -> NetApp etc. Let's not forget NFS either!
Great team work, thanks Cormac and Guy!
I recently did an EMC CX3-10c ISCSI with ESX 3.5 install. I wrote a blog post on how to do this. Check it out here.
Jeremy - cool link! I will link to your blog article from within the proven practice.
You might want to think about posting a document on VIOPS and providing links back to your site via the Resources section of that doc...?
We are looking for regular authors, leading lights etc to become a part of our up and coming knowledge campaigns... interested?
