VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) provides an automated method for fail-over of protected resources. VMware partners and sales professionals will find this document useful in setting up a standalone environment with full SRM demo capabilities on their laptops for customer meetings.

Intended Audience

 

VMware Site Recovery Manager Laptop Demo Guide intends to serve the VMware partner and sales communities in setting up a standalone environment on their laptops for customer demos. The setup is by no means a suggestion for customer POC or production setup.

Creating Site Recovery Manager (SRM) Laptop Demo

 

To successfully use this SRM laptop demo guide the following is assumed:

    • VMware Workstation 6.5

    • VMware ESX 3.0.2 U1 or 3.5 U1

    • VMware VirtualCenter 2.5 U1

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP 2

    • VMware Site Recovery Manager v1.0

    • VMware Site Recovery Manager Plug-In

    • LeftHand Network VSA for VMware ESX

    • LeftHand Network Centralized Management Console (CMC)

 

Partners can also use other virtual storage such as NetApp simulator instead of LeftHand Network VSA. The virtual storage used in this guide is only for illustration purposes.

I tested de ESX 3.5 u2 release from vmware and it worked for me.

i don´t understand in the Demo Installation Step´s in your Example the PrimeryESX(cos) and PrimeryESX(vmk)? What is cos and vmk?

Thanks for the comment. To answer your question, cos is a shortform for ESX Server Service Console (Console of Service) and vmk is for VMKernel.
