This is a prototype for a new type of document on VIOPS: Resources.

Anyone (read: registered users) can edit this document - but your changes need to be approved before publication:

The current standard document on VIOPS is "Proven Practices" that show you the "Who? and How?" for solving a particular challenge.

I think Eric Siebert over on VMware Land has a great idea with his VMware Links page, and I'd like to extend it. One driver for this is that there are many excellent resources out there but they are not always easy to find unless you are already expert, so a useful service from VMware to our customers is to help them find the answers faster, even if it isn't VMware that is providing them.

The added benefit of using a link from VIOPS is that it has been added and verified by one of our community experts as a useful and accurate resource.

Rather than just post a link, though, we should post

1. the link to the author description (e.g. their About page)

2. a link to the article

3. a paragraph describing the article

4. an outline of what the article contains

The idea on VIOPS is to create documents of links/resources on specific subjects. Examples of links / resources are:

• Proven Practices

• White papers and Tech Notes from vendors (VMware, the OEMs, TAPs, VACs, etc)

• Case Studies

• Blog articles

• VMTN Discussions

This first attempt is about Virtual Machines, because I just found a great link of VM Template Best Practices from Leo Raikhman.

• VMware doesn’t really provide best practices for VMs because it’s a matter of taste. So I’ll let you know how you can build templates that optimise your virtual environment deployment performance, disk I/O performance, conserve space and reduce your backup footprint.
