I don't have much to contibute except to comment that this type of how-to, IS AWESOME! This provides so much validation for the years we spent trying to do RAC on ESX before "it was cool". I was skeptical about joining this "viops" thing, but after seeing those two articles it was a no brainer. Anyone that can step someone through a RAC install and take the doctor degree out of it is cool to me.

Same goes for the 11g one, I've done this one, but I haven't done the 11g yet, can't wait.

Very good article Tim!

I'd some performance problems in a simillar scenario. (I use shared disks in vmware instead NFS).

After some research work it was the CRS and the initialization script:

I chaged SLEEP 1 to SLEEP 35 and the CPU was released.

May be someone could find this info useful.

Tim,

I noticed that for the package install that you installed just the basic Linux packages and then installed extras after that. When reading through the list, there are lot of packages missing that Oracle requires that don't come with the basic install and weren't installed after. Here are a couple:

1. libstdc++-3.4.3-9.EL4

2. libstdc++-devel-3.4.3-9.EL4

3. glibc-2.3.4

4. sysstat-5.0

and a couple others. How did you get around this?

Hi.

I did a custom installation, not a standard one. The package groups I used were listed in the articles. Those, along with the individual packages listed allowed the installer to complete with no prerequisite failures.

Hi.

I've just checked the latest documentation and the package groups I specified supply all the required packages except sysstat. I'll alter the document to include that also. Not sure why the installer didn't list this as a missing prerequesite.

The installation I performed was on top of RHEL 4.7. Previous spins of this OS may have different packages included in the package groups. Maybe this was a factor in your problems.
